A Personal Note From Daisy Walden, Our Founder And President:

Widows of Deceased Veterans was founded September, 2004, when a seventy-two year old widow of a deceased veteran was losing her home to foreclosure. After she visited the local Veterans Affairs office, it was determined that she was not eligible for any VA benefits. The VA officer contacted me and asked me if I could assist this widow, because of my years of experience in Banking and Real Estate.

I met with this widow and within ten minutes of talking with her, I realized she only had five days before the foreclosure of her home. I took a personal interest, as she had no family and would be homeless after the foreclosure. I was successful in raising the seventy-two hundred dollars ($7,200.00) needed to save her home.

This situation weighed heavily on me. As such, I researched and found out that if a veteran does not invest into a Survival Benefit Program; or does not have a certain percentage of service connected disability, the surviving spouse normally is not eligible for any VA benefits if receiving social security. This was very frightening to me, so the organization was formed.

Our goal is to make a national awareness of this situation and find ways to raise funds through grants and other fundraising method to assist these love ones who embraced our soldiers that preserved the freedom that we all cherish today. We are hoping to work with the Veteran Service officers in all states throughout the country to refer those widows and widowers that find them selves not eligible for VA benefits to our organization for that greatly needed assistance

Statistic shows that the baby boomers are living longer therefore our concerns for those individuals are heating oil, medical and other cost of living. We are attempting to assist these widows/widowers by working with churches and other organizations to establish a data base and through our Organization Chapters (National, State and Local) we will be able to identify these spouses and assist them as needed.
